Our interim organist-choirmaster
I am very pleased to let the community know that Dr. David Danielson Eaton will be joining the Chapel of the Cross staff on August 21st as our interim organist-choirmaster. Many of you had the chance to hear David on July 2 when he was our guest organist and choir director.
David is both honored and humbled to respond to this call. “I look forward to meeting you to collaborate, celebrate, assess, and prepare together as we transition in to the next phase of life,” he said. “Mother Elizabeth Marie and I have already established a relationship committed to honoring what has been done, while we begin to explore what may be possible. I look forward to joining you soon!”
As church musician, David has held appointments in New York, Boston, Minneapolis, San Antonio, Austin, Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Carolina. He served as director of music at the Church of St. John the Evangelist on Beacon Hill in Boston, and as director of music at historic St. Helena’s Episcopal Church (founded 1712) in Beaufort, South Carolina. For ten years David served parishes in Texas, first as director of music and organist choirmaster at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio, and then at All Saint’s Episcopal Church on the University of Texas campus in Austin. He has just finished serving as director of music and organist at the Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester, Massachusetts. David has also held numerous academic appointments. I encourage you to read his bio which can be found here.
I am also grateful that James Moeser will chair the rector’s search advisory committee as we seek a new organist and choirmaster to serve and lead in our parish. I thought it might be helpful to the parish to have a sense of the anticipated timeline of this search process:
- October 1: Parish listening session (formation time and post-5:15)
- November 1-December 1: Position open
- December 1-January 20: development of short list
- February 2018: listening tours of five candidates in situ
- Easter season 2018: in-person visits of 2-3 candidates
- April 15: call issued
- June or July 2018: New organist choirmaster begins
I am also pleased to let you know that the rector’s search advisory committee for the family and youth minister has been hard at work and is currently scheduling interviews with finalists for the position.
I ask your prayers in the midst of these transitions, that we might be drawn ever more deeply into relationship with the living God.
Elizabeth Marie Melchionna
