Children’s Formation

Children’s Chapel

Children’s Chapel is a Sunday morning service that provides a first liturgical experience for children ages two through first grade. The service includes music, stories, prayer and the teaching of familiar responses heard in “Big Church.” Children meet on the playground (weather permitting) before processing to the historic chapel. Children’s Chapel is held during the 9:00 service except in summer, when it is held during the 10:00 service. During rainy or exceptionally cold weather, children gather in the ground floor activity room. Please complete the Sunday morning child care information card by clicking on the gold bar to the right of this page.

Church School

Classes for two-year-olds through high school age taught by teams of adult parishioners from 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. each Sunday during the school year. Please complete a registration form by clicking the gold button on the right. Calendar information about each class can be found on the Church School page.

Youth Saints

Children 8 and older are invited to serve as assistants in the Children’s Chapel Program. Please fill out the Youth Saints application.

Vacation Church Camp

In our 2020 Vacation Church Camp, will be held June 22-26, 8:30 a.m. – noon. Registration will open after Easter. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Boykin Bell at bbell@thechapelofthecross.org.

Intergenerational Events

Events occur throughout the year and provide education and fellowship for all ages. Some of the most popular “intergenerationals” are the Advent Wreath making and Jesse Tree event held the first Sunday of the Advent season, the Epiphany potluck, and MLK Day of Service.

Serving the Church

Children and youth can serve the church in many ways, including singing in the choir, volunteering as a youth lector or acolyte, joining a group of Christmas carolers visiting the homebound, assisting in Children’s Chapel as a Youth Saint or helping at the ABC Sale.

Sunday Morning Child Care

Care for infants through seven-year-olds is offered during both the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. services and during the church school hour. In the summer, nursery care is available only during the 10:00 service and Dinner on the Grounds. Children ages two and older (and out of diapers) are encouraged to participate in Children’s Chapel and Church School when it is offered. The nursery is located on the second floor of the Church School building and is staffed every Sunday with well-trained and loving caregivers. Please complete the Sunday morning child care information card (found in the right column of this page).

We ask that you help other children stay healthy by keeping your sick child at home. Do not bring your child if he or she has any of the following: an infectious rash, vomiting, intestinal upset or fever within the last 24 hours, an illness that prevents him or her from participating in child care activities or an illness that requires more care than the staff members are able to provide without compromising the needs of the other children in the group.
