A Sunday morning service in the chapel that provides the first liturgical experience for children ages two through first grade. Children’s Chapel includes music, stories, prayer and the teaching of familiar responses heard in “Big Church.” Except in inclement weather, children meet on the playground before processing to the chapel. Children’s Chapel is held during the 9:00 service except in summer, when it is held during the 10:00 service. During rainy or exceptionally cold weather, children gather in the ground floor activity room. Please complete the Sunday morning child care information card by clicking on the gold bar to the right of this page.
Children 8 and older who do not participate in the junior choir are invited to serve as assistants in the Children’s Chapel Program. Please fill out the Youth Saints application.
Worship Class for 2nd Graders
This class is meant for first and second grade children transitioning from the Children’s Chapel to the “Big Church” service. The class meets three times in late winter and spring and focuses on the liturgy and Holy Eucharist. Parents are encouraged to pick up their children after the Breaking of the Bread so the children can join the congregation for Communion. Please watch the weekly announcements for sessions or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Vacation Church Camp
Vacation Church Camp is a one-week summer program. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Boykin Bell at email@example.com.
Occur throughout the year and provide education and fellowship for all ages during the church school hour. One of the most popular “intergenerationals” is the Advent Wreath making and Jesse Tree event held the first Sunday of the Advent season.
Many opportunities are available throughout the year for children and youth to share their gifts with others. All ages are invited to participate in the “Behold! All Things Have Become New” campaign by pledging time, talent and treasure through COTC Connect.
Serving the Church
Children and youth can serve the church in many ways, including singing in the choir, volunteering as a youth lector or acolyte, joining a group of Christmas carolers visiting the homebound, assisting in Children’s Chapel as a Youth Saint or helping at the ABC Sale.
Sunday Morning Child Care
Care for infants through seven-year-olds is offered during both the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. services and during the church school hour. In the summer, nursery care is available only during the 10:00 service and Dinner on the Grounds. Children ages two and older (and out of diapers) are encouraged to participate in Children’s Chapel and Church School when it is offered. The nursery is located on the second floor of the Church School building and is staffed every Sunday with well-trained and loving caregivers. Please complete the Sunday morning child care information card.
We ask that you help other children stay healthy by keeping your sick child at home. Do not bring your child if he or she has any of the following: an infectious rash, vomiting, intestinal upset or fever within the last 24 hours, an illness that prevents him or her from participating in child care activities or an illness that requires more care than the staff members are able to provide without compromising the needs of the other children in the group.
